Novice Agility

This class will aid both dogs and handlers in developing skills for running a Novice agility course.  Handlers will learn how to maneuver and direct their dogs through an agility course using basic directional cues, including eye contact, voice commands and body movements.  Dogs will need to have a solid recall to handler, and some experience with contacts, jumping, six weave poles, and tunnels – or have prior permission from one of the instructors.  Class emphasis will be on both dogs and handlers having FUN while learning the sport of agility.

Open Agility
This class continues from Novice Agility.  Dogs must have experience and confidence on all contact obstacles at full height, be able to weave 12 poles, travel through curved tunnels and a closed chute.  Dogs will continue to improve on speed and obstacle discrimination.  Handlers will continue to build on basic skills learned in Novice Agility.  Class emphasis will be on both dogs and handlers having FUN while learning the sport of agility.

Fun With Agility

Whether you plan to compete or just want to have fun with your dog, “Fun With Agility” will open the door for you.  Dogs will enjoy exploring obstacles to jump over, climb, or go through.  Handlers will learn how to maneuver and direct their dogs through an agility course using voice commands, eye contact, and body movements.  This class will allow you and your dog to have fun while learning agility.  Some pre-requisites required.

Masters Agility

Dogs must be competing at the Excellent/Masters Level or have the skills to compete at these levels.  Dogs and handlers will perfect and expand their speed and skills to shave seconds off course time, by choosing the most effective handling maneuvers and line.

Puppy Foundations

Your puppy will learn Clicker, 101 Things you can do with a Box and Crate Games the four basic skills all dogs should know, as well as basic obedience and beginning performance. We will keep it FUN by using toys, treats and praise to motivate, and using different balancing obstacles, such as the Bosu ball and wobble boards to keep them moving and focused.  Using the skills you will learn, we'll challenge you to teach your puppy a trick every week!  So sign up for FUN with your new puppy!  Open to 4-12 months old puppies. Exercises will be adapted for experience.

Puppy Class for the Pet Household

Build a relationship with your dog and socialize him/her to become comfortable with various conditions.  Puppies will learn sit, down, stay, walk (not pull) on leash, learn basic household manners, and be exposed to different noises and movements.

“Ahh, Puppies!”

What is better than cute puppy faces and puppy breath?  Why, it’s a puppy that is socialized and trained!  This class will help you get started with your puppy.  You will be taught games to play with your puppy through positive reinforcement.  These games will help your puppy earn basic commands and to focus his/her attention on you.  Your puppy will be given the opportunity to socialize with other puppies in the class, as well as with people.  Emphasis will be on a fun, good time.  Come with a smile on your face and puppy’s favorite toy and treats to use in class.  Puppies should be less than 1-year old.

Play And Learn

So your puppy is no longer a puppy…now what?  This class will enhance the skills learned in “Ahh, Puppies!”  Dogs will learn self-control and advanced commands by playing games and focusing on their handler.  Handlers will use voice and hand signals to gain the response desired from their dog.  This class will emphasize dogs and handlers having fun together while learning in a positive environment.  Dogs should be at least a year old.  Put on your happy face and bring Rover and his favorite toy or treatments and come play and learn with us!

Weaving 101:  “A New Twist on Weave Pole Training”

An introduction to weave poles using the 2x2 method, for really independent weaving.  Students must have taken a Shaping class or be familiar shaping with toys/treats to get desired behaviors.  Dogs must have a reliable Recall, Sit and Stay.  Students will have an opportunity to borrow 2x2 weave sets for home practice.  Open to dogs at least 1 year old.

Weaving 102:  “Wonderful Weaving”

Difficult weave entries as well as proofing for distractions will be covered.  Students will have completed Weaving 101 or dogs must be comfortable weaving a straight line of 6 poles independently (or without luring).

Preparing for Prime Time

Prepare your team to move up to Helen's sought after Masters Agility classes that have waiting lists. Advanced Novice, Open and Excellent level dogs will run same courses as Helen's Masters classes. We will course walk as a group, briefly discuss handling options, then run! Dogs should have been on all equipment and are able to sequence obstacles.  (If special skills are needed, we suggest you ALSO take "Weaves/Contacts/Jumps" offered at 11:15 Tuesdays).

Weaves/Contacts/Jumps

Description: teach your dog these new skills or brush up old skills of weaving, stopped contacts and jumping. Class will be split covering all 3 areas. Dogs must have basic obedience such as sit, stay, and reliable recall. Must be 1 year old or physically mature in order to weave and jump.

“Skills & Drills” (for Agility)

This class is for anyone who wants to work on the basic skills needed to navigate an agility course. We will work on handling techniques, contacts, and weaves. Students should have been through foundation and novice level classes and be nearly ready to trial or already have competed. The class is also a good refresher for more advanced students who wish to get some skills practice, or work on issues related to fundamental skills and sequences.

Focus On Obstacles

This is a great opportunity for beginners in agility who have had exposure to all of the obstacles, but are still working on perfecting their performance. Each week a couple of obstacles will be selected for focused work...who hasn't felt they just needed some serial repetitions on an obstacle for their dog to "get it"?? Advanced Puppy Foundations for Performance

This class will continue the training begun in Puppy Foundations and focus on the skills needed for dogs who will become performance dogs - obedience, agility or other competitions which require focus, balance and desire to work with the handler.
